Arguably the king of weird fiction – and definitely the king of eldritch horror!
His 1931 novella At The Mountains Of Madness is easily one of the eeriest ever.
Lovecraft mastered the art of making you feel small as a human being. Nothing can make you feel smaller than finding out that humans were not the first nor the most important “intelligent” things on Earth.
In At the Mountains of Madness an expedition goes into the world of endless ice of Antarctica where buried ruins are discovered.
And there is something waiting beneath that ice…
The story is compelling and downright scary in a very cosmic sort of way.
Now filmmaker Adrián Adamec brings At the Mountains of Madness to the screen.
If this trailer is any indication he does good work in capturing the majesty of the work of H.P. Lovecraft.
To quote the master himself:
It is absolutely necessary, for the peace and safety of mankind, that some of earth’s dark, dead corners and unplumbed depths be let alone.
