Among his Weird Tales colleagues, Clark Ashton Smith was most clearly the heir to the poetic wordplay of Lord Dunsany. Known as one of the “big three” at Tales alongside Robert E. Howard and H. P. Lovecraft, Smith’s prolific output would inspire a rising generation of fantasy writers including Fritz Leiber, Ray Bradbury, and Leigh Bracket.
Smith set his stories in a number of recurring worlds. One of these was Poseidonis, the last surviving outpost of Atlantis. Here resided the fearsome and mercurial magician Malygris.
